The interior design industry is growing – and growing fast. To make it big with so many competitors, you need to get your groove on! Gone are the days when you could get away with the same strategies for years to come.

Consumer interests are changing daily and the need of the day is to come at par with them. So, if you want an increased clientage, high business growth and to become a famous, sought after interior designer, include the following practical steps to get things going.

5 Tips to make it Big in the Interior Design Business

1.Narrow Down Your Niche

“Jack of all trades, master of none” We strongly believe the same holds true for the interior design industry. It is much hard to become famous for being a GENERAL interior designer; than if you were to pick a niche. A specific niche gives you a narrow client base which is easier to target. Also, it becomes easier to give quality service, as you know EXACTLY who your client is and what they want.

For instance, if you think you design offices best, establish yourself as creating and designing office space. If you make cozy home interiors, establish yourself like that. Defining your niche differentiates you from your competition.

2.Social Media Presence

No one can deny the impact social media has on our lives. It can make or break you: period. Therefore, it is important to get your social media presence spot on. Advertise on multiple platforms, get on Instagram or Pinterest, make a blog, make virtual presentations and 3D projections of your designs, etc. Offer home décor tips and tricks in blog articles, tell stories of the designs you’ve done and educate potential clients through a Facebook or Instagram Story.

3.Houzz – Be There

Houzz is the Holy Grail of interior design and remodeling. With over 40 million users, it is the place to be. It is wise to go ahead and share your work there. Here, you can easily showcase your designs and ideas to people and comment to develop relationships with potential clients. Get your satisfied clients to jump on Houzz and leave valuable feedback to encourage others to try you. Online reviews are very important.

4.Network and Paid Partnerships

Try to create synergies. Connect with the brands you buy a lot of products from. Maybe you can end up getting and giving some sort of discount. They can even refer you to their clients. Likewise, grow your network and collaborate with other designers. You can write a guest post for them or they can do that for you. Connect with other designers on different events and establish and expand your network.

5.Apply For Awards

Having an award or any form of recognition is going to promote you as a designer. Look for award opportunities in your local area and apply. Oftentimes award categories go empty with little to no submissions. No one will know your capabilities if you don’t put them out there. Having peers and gurus appreciate your work will not only give a boost to your business, but you can network and learn so much at these events.

So, these 5 fool-proof tips will let you expand your interior design business in 2021 and for years to come.
